Vegan MoFo begins!
Welcome to October, officially re-named Vegan MoFo 2011! Sorry I'm starting a couple of days late, but I do plan on keeping up with the 20 post goal for the month. My grand vision is for this blog to be a heady mixture of bento pictures, recipe experiments and product reviews.
How to cut the opening ribbon? Product review!
Redwoods recently launched a vegan tuna-style paté as part of their 'Making Waves' vegan sea-food range. Packaged in an unassuming tube, it only takes on a flaky tuna texture when squeezed out. It doesn't have a particularly fishy flavour, I would describe it more as savoury and slightly yeasty. Not overly oily like some patés , it makes a great on-the-go sandwich filling (if you have a scissors or something sharp to open the tube, that is!). I haven't tried mixing it up with mayonnaise to make a tuna salad yet so I'm not sure if that would make it taste more like traditional tuna.
Cheap (€2.70), tasty, convenient but doesn't quite taste fishy enough ★★★☆☆
Surprise bento picture! In my lunch box today was a houmous and 'tuna' sandwich, an apple pie Nakd bar, cashew nuts and red grapes.

I was put off by thinking it would be too fishy, maybe I should try it!
