Barcelona Vegan List

It's hard to believe I've been here for over a month now!
I've been so busy that I haven't had time to go out and see the tourist attractions or sample the various vegan delights of the city. However, I have been doing alot of vegan investigating and have been drawing up a mental vegan 'pro' and 'anti' list of my new home.

   Pro
- Lots of delicious fresh fruit and veg
- There are 4 vegan restaurants!
- Falafel restaurants/take-aways are pretty common
- Staple foods such as beans/rice/veg are really cheap
- Dairy-free guacamole is easily attainable
- The beans come in jars, not tins.
- It's really easy to get roasted vegetables in jars
- There are organic supermarkets near my flat
- Really good ranges of dairy-free milk
- Vegan cleaning products actually aren't too badly priced.
- Pipas, Sweet-William chocolate, vanilla Provamel yogurt, cheap organic Nutella-style spread, paprika-
flavoured Pringles, al i oli sauce, Cola Cao
- Tempeh and seitan are pretty easy to find (I don't really care for seitan but still, it's vegan)
- I found a meetup group which seems to be active!

   Anti
- Difficult to get 'replacement' products that don't contain eggs
- Vegan toiletries are expensive and the range of products available isn't great
- Surprisingly I've been finding it difficult to find nice houmous
- Some speciality products such as miso are really expensive
- The organic supermarkets also sell meat
- No Kara coconut milk, I miss having it on my cereal
- There isn't quite the same understanding of veganism here, things tend not to be labeled.
- Lack of cheap, vegan muesli
- Cafés tend not to do vegan sandwiches, just cheese, ham, tuna or all sorts of sausage meat
- I can't get vegan spread in the supermarket, I buy Provamel soya spread in El Corte Ingles and (update) I got some Pure sunflower spread in Gopal
- It's hard to get just plain cocoa powder for baking
- Companies that do non-dairy milks and margarines don't label whether they use vitamin D2 or D3
- No veggie burgers or bean burgers in the supermarket

This list isn't entirely exhaustive, I'm sure I'll adding to it over the coming months!
