I like reading/flicking through vegan magazines, and have recently started reading magazines on my tablet. As vegan magazines are a bit niche, they are easier to get online, not to mention cheaper. Also not getting them in print saves paper and clutter.
Vegan Life magazine. This is a newly launched, UK-focused, general lifestyle magazine. It is everywhere at the moment as it is new and they have really engaged with the blogging community. It is a nice magazine to flick through, lots of pictures and a nice variety of articles. I use the app for Android and bought a single issue, although subscriptions are available. Subscriptions of up to three years are available, so I hope that Vegan Life magazine lives up to its own optimism and stays around for a while.
VegNews magazine. This is an American vegan lifestyle magazine. I subscribed last year as I like to have something to read and the € to $ exchange rate is favourable. It does have some interesting stuff in it but I think the Atlantic cultural gap is a bit wide. Absolutely nothing against the US but I prefer European-based magazines as I can relate to them a bit better. Also VegNews has more of a focus on health, celebrity and fashion than I would be interested in. I have a year-long subscription which I access through the Zinio app for Android which I don't think I will renew.
Vegetarian living magazine. This is not a vegan magazine, but it is very vegan-aware. This UK-based magazine is mainly a food magazine, but also have lifestyle, eco, gardening and other features. There are usually lots of vegan recipes, which are clearly noted, as are recipes which are easily adaptable for vegans. I use the Vegetarian Living magazine app, and don't currently have a subscription, although I would consider it.
Chickpea magazine. Although this magazine has been around for a few years I only just subscribed. There was a sale on year-long subscriptions and again € to $ exchange rate is good. This is a US publication and rather than being a lifestyle magazine, it is more of a gourmet foodie magazine. Very arty and visual.
Vegan Food magazine. There has only been one issue of this magazine so far, which came out last year, but I really enjoyed it so I live in hope that there will be another one soon. It was free but it is such a good quality magazine that I think they could have success with a paid model.
Any other vegan/vegetarian magazines that I have missed or that you would recommend? Let me know!
Updated 2/11/14:
Tofu magazine: Tofu magazine has been around since 2007 and has only published 7 issues. It is always a great read, unabashedly vegan and alternative, both fun and political. The lastest issue came out last year focused on body shaming and body image in the vegan movement. It is available for free or a donation. I wish it was published more frequently and await the next issue, whenever it may arrive!
