Granovita cashew vegan cheese

I came across this vegan cashew cheese in the health food section of El Corte Inglés. It is made by Granovita, a brand which has products available in the UK and Ireland too, but I could only find information about the cheese in Spanish so I am not sure if it is currently available outside of Spain.

I got the natural flavour, but it also comes in olive, pepper and smoked varieties. It comes in a tube similar to how Cheezly is packaged here, and I was surprised how solid and sliceable it was considering that it does not have any gelling agents like agar or carageenan. There are only 4 ingredients listed; cashews, lemon juice, water and salt.

I wasn't sure how cheesy it could be without any nutritional yeast or extra flavourings, but I was pleasantly surprised. My first thought was that it tasted like solid, salted cashew butter, which is a positive. It made a nice addition to a tofu Spanish omelette sandwich. I'm not sure if it would melt when heated, but I will try it and post an update.

    1. That thought did occur to me before I tried it but it is softer and more cashew-y than Nuttolene :)
