Crema de Almendras (almond cream)

Uses: One or two spoonfuls in a glass of water (hot or cold), coffee, malts, etc. It can also be used as a topping for cakes, flans, custard, ice creams etc. Ingredients: Almonds, fructose, water and locust bean gum

I always see this product in the supermarket, made mysterious by the fact that it is normally in a metal tin so that its contents can't be seen. I wondered whether it was an almond butter, a cream, a condensed milk... what on earth would a product that could be used as a drink and a cake topping be? When I saw a small jar costing less than €3 I decided to satisfy my long-held curiosity.

Indeed it is a cream! A very sweet cream, so much so that the sweetness almost masks the flavour of the almonds. I have yet to find a use for it but I shall experiment with it and blog about my findings!
