Vegan Podcasts

Ever since I first listened to the now-absent Vegan Freaks podcast in 2008, I have been a big fan of the medium. I have listened to many vegan podcasts, ones I like that I can now nearly recite, ones I didn't like that quickly got taken off the iPod. I won't name names, I'm only going to review the programmes I like.

I was listening exclusively to Vegetarian Food For Thought for a while, I love Colleen and can pretty much recite all of her podcasts from hours of repeated listening on buses and trains, and recently I listened to them all again at my desk. I am working in an office where I am allowed to have my headphones on while I work, which has opened me up once again to discovering new podcasts.

So here is a list of the vegan podcasts I'm liking at the moment:

Vegetarian Food for Thought: Despite the name, it is a completely vegan podcast. Colleen discusses all aspects of being vegan- cooking and recipes, animal rights, language and literature and dealing with the non-vegan world. There are too many episodes that I like to chose a favourite but I really like 'The Taming of the Cattle', as I find the history of domesticated animals fascinating. I also recommend the 'I only eat white meat' episode about chickens.

Red Radio: I only found this one through vegnfeed as it doesn't have 'vegan' in the title so I wouldn't have found it through an iTunes search. I am only new to it and am catching up with episodes but the presenter Erin has a outgoing, in-your-face, abolitionist style, covering a variety of vegan lifestyle topics and interviewing an interesting array of vegan guests.

Our Hen House: Again I am new to this one and am still catching up with episodes. This podcast has been around for over two years, so I am surprised that I had never heard of it. Probably again because it doesn't have 'vegan' in the title! Jasmin and Marianne's mission is to 'change the world for animals', so they vary between abolitionist and welfarist guests and topics, but they always have fun banter, interesting topics and engaging and varied interviews.

I have also downloaded episodes of Vegan Snack Attack, The Vegan Option and Animal Voices to listen to so I will let you know my thoughts!

I know that there are lots of other vegan podcasts out there now and I am having fun discovering them! :)
