| Peanut butter and cashew cake |
I wanted to blog about the new Camden St vegan triangle (Happy Food, Sova Vegan Butcher, McGuinness Takeaway) as part of Vegan MoFo, but I ran out of steam! So yes, veganism has taken off in Dublin in the last few years, options are expanding all the time, more than I could ever imagine 8 years ago when I first went vegan. A chipper with an extensive vegan menu? A fine dining vegan restaurant? In Dublin? What a time be alive!
So I'm starting with Happy Food. It is a vegan café in a yoga studio, gluten-free, the type of place where you can get a smoothie bowl. It opens from 8-3:30, so it is a place for breakfast or lunch rather than dinner. I went on my lunchbreak (walking distance from work! Yay!) but just got a slice of cake. However, there are also salads and a menu with burgers and wraps and such, as well as tea, coffee and smoothies. There were raw cake slices and chia energy balls, but I went with a slice of peanut butter and cashew cake. It was €3.50, and was more of a carrot cake with a peanut butter glaze. It was really moreish, I never would have thought of adding peanut butter to carrot cake! I would definitely return to try some of the savoury options, and get another slice of cake.
