Round up of recent finds: Peanut butter, Popcorn bars, Kellogg's Ancient Legends breakfast cereal, Vanilla rice protein and Belvita softbakes

An entire kilo of peanut butter for only €8, I couldn't resist! I prefer natural-style, unsweetened peanut butter so this is right up my street! Now I'm wondering how long it will take me to get through a whole kilo of it...

A new find in Tesco, unlike anything I had seen before. I love bars and am always willing to give a new one a try. I was expecting these cranberry popcorn bars to be crunchy like rice crispie bars, but they are very chewy. My first impression was that they they stuck unpleasantly to my teeth, but by the end of my first bar they had grown on me!

The new Kellogg's Ancient Legends range was launched at half price, so I have quite a sizeable collection of cereal, granola and muesli. I can't resist a vegan bargain! The granola and muesli I have been using for smoothie bowls and stirring into yoghurt, but I haven't gotten through as much of the cereal. I quite like it, it reminds me of Bran Flakes (which these days often have honey or vitamin D3).

I'm exercising more again these days, and even though protein powder isn't really necessary, I like having something to add to smoothies and possibly bake with. I have some unflavoured pea protein powder, which is fine, but it has a taste which requires some getting used to. Rice protein has a much mellower flavour, and I like vanilla. I am happy to report that this is more palatable than pea protein. I haven't baked with it yet, but I have been stirring it into yoghurt with peanut butter (see massive bucket of peanut butter above!) and fruit.

Belvita's range of breakfast biscuits seems to be growing all the time, but most of them aren't vegan. So I was surprised to see a new vegan-friendly offering, Red Berries soft bakes. I enjoy soft bake biscuits, they are a bit different to the regular crunchy affairs. These soft bakes are quite nice, not earth-shatteringly amazing, but definitely something I would buy again, especially as something to keep in my desk drawer at work for a mid-morning snack.

  1. I love those gigantic tubs of peanut butter! I always get through them alarmingly quickly. Occasionally, when I had enough points on my H&B card, I used to get the almond butter one, but it was so expensive it was a really rare treat!

  2. Heya! I do love almond butter, I may take inspiration from you and use my Holland & Barrett vouchers to treat myself to the massive bucket! :)
