Bilbao

As part of my frantic quest to see some more of Spain before I leave, I've just spent four days in Bilbao, a small, historical city which is the main urban hub of the Basque country. There are a handful of vegetarian restaurants, none of which I went to simply because I was travelling on the cheap.
There was an issue with our hostel not allowing us use the kitchen (even though it said on their website that it was open to guests) or even letting us bring food in from 'outside', so seeing as I like to self-cater, I didn't eat quite as well as I would have liked!
I mainly ate snacks and sandwiches out of the supermarket and got falafel a couple of times from a Turkish kebab shop up near the Guggenheim. I found some plain rice-milk ice-cream in a café on the Gran Vía, near the bridge, which I had with some orange sorbet. I also came across an Antitaurino shop in the old quarter (Casco viejo), which sold anti-bullfighting t-shirts, animal-rights books and fair-trade clothes, which shows that there is a vegetarian/vegan presence in the city.

That's the Guggenheim museum of modern art, definitely the tourist highlight of Bilbao!
