Gopal- Vegan Joy!!

On the strength of this review (thank you Glasvegan for sending me the link) I decided to visit Gopal. It's only a couple of metro stops away from where I live so I had absolutely no excuse not to investigate this wonderful little place for myself.
Besides, I heard that there was cake!
Gopal is an all-vegan deli near the bottom of La Rambla (check here for a decent map!) which is absolutely amazing!!
The two exclamation marks are completely warranted, I assure you!

When you first walk in the giant blackboard menu is quite intimidating but the great thing about it being an all-vegan place is that I could just choose something random off the menu for the craic. I got a maxi burger (or was it max burger? I can't remember) and a chocolate muffin. With a bottle of water it cost €8.70, hardly an every-day expense for a poor student such as myself but definately more than worth the money.

The burger I had seemed to be a potato-based creation, in a bun absolutely stuffed with salad leaves, tomato slices, some sort of gherkin-esque pickled something, mystery relish and even a slice of Toffuti cheese.
Again, because of it being an all-vegan temple of joy I didn't have to worry about the mystery relish! I could just sit back and enjoy!
It doesn't have many seats but most people seem to order to take-away so there was plenty of room for me to sit down with my free vegan newspaper.

After my nom-able burger I was quite full, but not too full for chocolate cake! My dessert was somewhere between a cake, a bun and a muffin. What I thought would be a soft, whipped mousse was actually just a thick, dreamy mound of solid icing. The icing was chocolate with a cute little cherry in the middle. Once I had slowly chipped away at the icing with my fork I was then able to get into the cakey, crumbly, heavenly chocolate-chip muffin.

Gopal may just have to get used to be being a regular! Definately the best vegan food I've ever gotten from an.. establishment? It's not quite a restaurant, not quite a take-away, it's somewhere between a deli and a bakery. I'll just call it a souce of vegan joy!

It also has a very small shop section which is behind the counter with the food. It sells Redwoods and Toffutti cheese, some vegan salamis and most importantly my favourite Pure sunflower oil spread! When I run out of my current Provamel spread I'm going to Gopal to welcome the yellow Pure back into my life!
