'You're a vegan..... (lots of silly questions ensue, which I try to answer as best I can).... you can't give blood, right?'
Wrong! I'm a blood donor, and only became one after I went vegan.
I gave blood for the second time today, and once again my iron levels are perfect. Must be all that delicious kale!
When I tell people that despite not eating red meat *shudders* I have perfectly donatable blood the usual response is 'That's weird'.
People are frustratingly adamant in their stereotypes and pre-conceived notions despite the fact that I am living proof of the opposite.
I've also had someone say to me 'Oh do they ask you on the form if you're a vegan?'. No! Why would they?
As long as I have healthy blood it's none of their business what I eat and don't eat! I think that eating a healthy vegan diet and giving blood is a perfect example of vegans caring about everyone, not just animals.
Plus, you get free bourbon creams!
