Wilmersburger cheese and Wheaty Chorizo pizza
What's a lazy Sunday afternoon without pizza? I love trying new vegan products so when I saw the Wilmersburger Pizzaschmeltz in the Eco-Centre/Vegania (an all-vegan shop which is about 2 minutes walk from my apartment!) I knew that it was going on a pizza!
I used the pizza dough recipe from VWAV and made up a pizza sauce with passata, onions, garlic, mixed herbs and a pinch of salt and lemon juice. I have yet to find a pre-made pizza sauce here that I like, it took me a while but I found some good passata and now I can make my own! It was then topped with the pizzaschmeltz and some Wheaty chorizo and put in the oven until the crust was nice and browned.
Verdict on the pizzaschmeltz?
It reminded me alot of Teese- it melts better than it tastes. It wasn't awful, just slightly insipid. My favourite vegan cheese for pizza is still Redwoods Cheezly, maybe next time I might mix some of the pizzaschmeltz with cheddar Cheezly to get the right mixture of flavour and texture.
